Marine Ecology / Possom Point -
The field stations are fairly remote. Our mode of travel is mainly by boat, using 25-foot fiberglass dories with outboards. Well equipped and maintained, these boats are highly maneuverable on the narrow waterways and around coral reefs. A school bus is used for inland trips. Depending on your groups needs, a portion of your trip can be spent at Possum Point for terrestrial studies and a portion on Wee Wee Caye for marine studies. The Chiquibul-Maya Mountain Program is an exciting, innovative endeavor to protect the most important block of tropical forest in Belize, Central America. This block consists of an agglomeration of fourteen protected area sub-units. The purpose of this endeavor is to develop and implement a comprehensive and integrated sustainable management program primarily for the core conservation areas of the Chiquibul-Maya Mountain block.
